Oral Piercings & Oral Health

Piercings

Having an oral piercing, such as tongue or lip, can have a negative impact on the health of your teeth and gums. The constant knocking of the piercing against the teeth can, over time, cause the teeth to break, it can also cause the gums to recede. This then makes the affected teeth and/or gums sensitive and in extreme cases, can cause the tooth to die, resulting in root canal treatment or an extraction.

If you choose to go ahead with an oral piercing it is recommended to use plastic jewellery instead of metal as it’s not as harsh on your oral health.
